Slide the bead along the wire Partitions shift with every addled mind From left toward the right Keeping score of existential crises Too many egos are surviving What's keeping them from dying? When I try to create An equation scares me straight Fear enters my soul The calculator takes control Approximating what is real Analyze Predict I'm trying to feel Is the truth even consequential? Solving a proof so transcendental When I try to create An equation scares me straight Fear enters my soul The calculator takes control Restless in this vessel A part of me is verily drunk on introspection Counting fingers and toes The rest of me is more intrigued by a higher math A faith that there is more to know Cracking at formulas born out of an incomplete worldview Change that is great is often slow, further belated by our failure to see through systems we’ve misconstrued The panic is multiplying Am I mad or does the math not add up?

A head that is weighed down by the albatross is forced to face a forgotten ground that it’s roamed across for all these years Tracking tread and traces Between rocks and hard places Through labyrinths and mazes Puts one through the paces Tripped by something ancient Covered up for generations Queue the excavation A tall task to be undertaken Oh what restraint to abstain from spoils of discovery A childish game to rush for the alien so readily So charge in head long Start the dredge until you unearth the other end Then go beyond Slow descent until you're falling up again Mining every mile for all there is Brush away collecting dust Polish off corroding rust A breakthrough growing nearer But first to face the mirror Oh what restraint to abstain from spoils of discovery A childish game to rush for the alien so readily So charge in head long How many empires foresaw their own fall? Am I dancing past the drapes of my own curtain call? How did my “fancy” footwork get me this far? And for how long will it last? Trekking down this path Leave the rest to chance Never know who you’ll meet Or what reunions come to be Implicating others in a selfish sort of journey But swearing the same oath Pass on the wealth of what you know To quench this drinker's thirst Will the mentor fill the well? Or the pupil fall in head first? Oh what restraint to abstain from spoils of discovery A childish game to rush for the alien so readily

Heroes and pantomimes The latter’s worth a dozen for a single dime See, I might make it there on my own But it's not the same going on this way I turn back and catch a glimpse below where the impressions of your footsteps end There’s a breeze that blows from east to west And every gust is a familiar ruffle of my hair I savor every breath within my chest Watching every sun that sets at dusk fall just beyond Elysian fields Heroes and pantomimes The latter’s worth a dozen for a single dime I had a dream in a hue of gold of a well kept lawn with a garden pond In that vacant lot near my childhood home At the furthest end was your silhouette There’s a breeze that blows from east to west And every gust is a familiar ruffle of my hair I savor every breath within my chest Watching every sun that sets at dusk fall just beyond Elysian fields Where the bustle of the city is distant When the clouds have temporarily lifted The foliage begins to glow and the negative space in it’s shadow makes a face It casts a wink here on the brink of twilight An Autumn season is coming on and then I'll see you somewhere else Heroes and pantomimes The latter’s worth a dozen for a single dime

The Trials 05:32
What's the harm with stepping into shifting shadows? Where some belong but you need a key Force the hand of another side Unconscious but not asleep Are you deserving of the change? of a bend to reality? Are you deserving of the ground that you willed beneath your feet? You cast You wish You pray that I will take on the energy of the archetype that is in your dream but it won't come for free Are you deserving of the change? of a better reality? Are you deserving of the ground that you willed beneath your feet? How do mortals reconcile chasing altered states and getting tangled in the turnstile? Hard left on a winding rite of passage And/Now here you are Sometimes one small step is all it takes to blaze a trail from here to hell

about

Red Era was born out of the unique conditions of 2020. Guitarist Chris Prinzel reached out to bassist Jack Pfiester (former Mogul Street Reserve bandmate) and drummer James Ferrell (Waypoints, Big Math, Triptico) to bring to life the library of musical ideas he had amassed. Months later, Bildungsroman emerges — a tempestuous collection of music that reflects the times in which it was created.
